Covent Garden - London

November 1, 2008

Covent Garden is a heart of London entertainment life. There are many theatres, museums, hotels, restaurants, pubs, including Royal Opera House. You can find here also street musicians and clowns. People seat on the ground, listen the music, eat lunch and even rectify maquillage;-)

Put attention which date is written on this old building - 1830!

Leicester Square - London

October 18, 2008

We planned to visit one of the great musical shows which are so many in London. Knowing about Leicester Square that is famed for a huge amount of ticket boxes selling tickets by very affordable prices, we went there.

Unfortunately we could not buy cheap tickets to Mamma Mia, but we could choose tickets from a wide range other variations - from Lion of King and Phantom of the Opera to Dirty Dancing, We Will Rock You and more.

We decided in favor of We Will Rock. We had a great time, because it was really big rock show with super modern decorations and very talented young singers and dancers.

Tower of London

September 27, 2008

When we looked at the Tower from Big Bus Tour we saw many people waiting before the entrance - long-long line of people.
Next day we came here early morning - around 9 AM and bought tickets easy, maybe after 5 minutes waiting near the cashbox window.
Price for adult ticket - 16 pounds, for kids before 16 years old - 9 pounds

Inside we rented the audio guide in Russian - more 3 pounds and took the tour according to audio guide instructions

Founded nearly a 900 years ago , the Tower of London has protected, housed, imprisoned and been for many the last sight they saw on Earth.

It has been the seat of British government and the living quarters of monarchs … the site of renown political intrigue, and the repository of the Crown Jewels.

Have a great Stag Party in London

September 10, 2008

Well, the day is coming: your single-life’s time is about to be over and you would like for sure to organize a party to share your happyness with your best friends.

They call these kind of parties as “Stag Parties”, but you don’t have to think to that kind of parties they show on television, with tons of future brides betrayed right before being married !

A Stag Party is simply your last call to single’s lifestyle, so a night - or a whole weekend too ! - you can dedicate to all the activities that your future responsability as husband (and maybe, one day, as father too) will keep far from you in the future.

For this reason you’d like to organize a Stag Party: you’ll enjoy hard drinking, gambling and telling dirty jokes with your friends one more time, the same way you have happily done during these years of not-married status.

And if you decide to organize a Stag Party or a whole Stag Weekend, than you will certainly enjoy London as seat of your fool activities!

London is a fantastic, multi-cultural, life-spreading city which will amaze you with its great variety of enterteinments.

For example, if you are so lucky to marry in summer, then coming to London for your Stag Party you could even enjoy the Caribbean Notting Hill Carnival, the biggest street carnival of Europe.
Moreover, let’s say you love to eat (much more than what your girlfriend desires!): in this case you’ll love Soho with its great variety of ethnical restaurants, including the famous Italian and Greek ones.

London is able to offer to you every kind of enterteinment and opportunity you would like to find: you just have to think about your desires and go.
As you can understand, there are good reasons to organize a Stag Party and even better reasons to stag do in London !

Beatles Places in London

September 6, 2008

The second free walk tour we got from Big Bus Company was tour about Beatles places in London.
We saw the house where was opened any TV studio if I understood right and near this house another one where Mozart lived when he visited London at his 9th age.
We came to Soho Square to look at the Paul McCartney’s music publishing company building with his logo

Next stop - Gentlemen toilet where John Lennon made a photo

This interested wall has many famous faces on it including John Lennon’s face

In this building - firstly in the basement and later on the last floor - Beatles recorded their music

Royal London

August 22, 2008

One of the free walk tours we got from Big Bus Tour Company was Royal London.
It’s started near St. James Palace that was built by Henry VIII between 1531 and 1536 and was a residence of kings and queens of England for over 300 years.

Our guide told us about history of this castle and about Royal Family today.
We waited for the very beautiful and colorful ceremony of Changing the Guard started 10.50am on Marlborough Gate.

Many people come to look at this great show.

August 16, 2008

When we visited London on our summer vacation we decided to take Big Bus Tour for getting first impressions and orientation. There are two storied comfortable red buses that have 3 variations of routes - red, green and blue. We took blue route with audio guide on many languages.

This is the system of Hop-on and Hop-off as much as you wish with possibility to join to free walking tours and river trip on Thames.

A Trip to Hungary

July 5, 2008

I went to a trip Romania-Hungary many years ago. That was difficult in Russia to get a permission to go abroad and buy this trip. I could receive this permission only from a special committee that considered the applications and decided who would be the happy participants. The committee met at the Institute, where I worked. At last the permission was given to me. Our group went by train to Romania and Hungary. After three days in Romania we came to Budapest. This city differed from Bucharest of that time. It was much more lively, we could see new big buildings of hotels, there were some private shops, at the same time big stores and supermarkets still belonged to the government. It was in 1985.
We went by bus around the city, it was beautiful with a big river (Danube) and embanquement. On the other day we went to a small town of Estergom and watched picturesque banks of the river. Once we met an American group, and one of the tourists from Michigan told me: “I am glad, that I didn’t meet here any negroes.” We also met a group from Italy, it mainly consisted of middle-aged pairs. As our group consisted mostly of young women, the Italian men expressed their delight of this meeting. The meeting was very warm, but the language barrier prevented from more close communication. We were leaving on the weekend. I dropped in a supermarket and wondered the familiar picture: a lot of women were hurrying to do shopping before the holiday. I decided that there were as many working women in Hungary, as in the Soviet Union.
